The Royal College of Psychiatrists' International Congress 2015
Category: Foundation - Other
Date: June 29th 2015 until July 2nd 2015
Location: The International Convention Centre, Broad Centre, Birmingham B1 2EA
The International congress is a perfect opportunity for trainees and student associates to develop their interests, increase their skills, participate and network.
In addition to the standard congress agenda, the PTC has created a full programme of lectures, activities and social events for Core, Higher, Foundation Trainees* and Medical Students*:
Trainee Lounge: this area is where all trainees and student associates can network and come to sessions on current issues for trainees. The Trainee Lounge programme includes talks from Geraldine Strathdee, National Clinical Director for Mental Health, NHS England; Wendy Burn, Dean, RCPsych; Ian Hall, Associate Dean, RCPsych; and Karl Scheeres, PTC Chair.
Careers Fair: Core Trainees, Foundation Trainees and Medical Students are encouraged to visit our Careers Fair. Representatives from the College Faculties will be providing information on what working in their speciality is really like, and also offering advice on improving CVs, research and audit opportunities.
Trainee Stream: a stream of sessions of particular interest to trainees and students will be available on the Tuesday.
Student Associate and Trainee Buddy Scheme: the scheme works by linking up trainee volunteers with one or more Medical Students and Foundation Trainees at the beginning of the day. Participating in this scheme is a great way to forge better links between students and trainees, network and ask all those questions to find out what being a Psychiatrist is really like.
On-line Hub: demonstrations and tutorials of TrOn, Portfolio Online and CDP online – bring your tablet or Smartphone for a personal demonstration!
Dinner: on the Tuesday evening there will be a delicious dinner for trainees and students, which will be attended by special guest Professor Sir Simon Wessely, President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Posters: trainees are encouraged to submit and abstract for poster presentation at the congress. The deadline for abstract submission is 26th February.
Bursaries: funds allocated to trainee and student associate bursaries have been tripled this year. Any trainees and student associates submitting a poster abstract can apply for a bursary to cover their registration and travel expenses.
Reduced fees: book by 26th February to take advantage of the lowest rates since 2002!
