Intercollegiate Basic Surgical Skills Course

This three-day course has been designed to introduce surgical trainees to safe surgical practice within a controlled workshop environment and it aims to 'teach, assess and certify' the ability of trainees to use safe and sound surgical techniques that are common to all forms of surgery.

This course is aimed at:

• BSS should be undertaken during the first year of specialty training (ST1), although trainees in foundation years may take part. This is an advantageous certificate to have when applying for CT posts.

• Open surgery
• Trauma and Orthopaedics
• Minimal access surgery
