This coming year, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), Severn Deanery and SCRUBS are organising a national conference for aspiring surgeons from any year in medical school all the way up to Foundation Year 2 doctors. This email represents a formal invitation to your society and your respective medical school students to attend our conference, the details of which are as follows:

Date: Saturday 2nd March 2013
Time: 9am-5pm
Location: School of Chemistry, University of Bristol
Cost: £10 if presenting (£5 if spectating). Free for RCSEd Affiliates.
Open to: All medical students and F1+F2 doctors

This is a chance for medical students and foundation doctors to present their work to consultant surgeons for a chance to win a national prize. There are both oral and poster presentations with specific surgical categories for each.

Attendance is £10 which will include lunch and refreshments and a prize will be awarded to the best oral presentation and poster in each category. All attendees will receive a certificate for their portfolio. The conference is a national one and students are advised to check their foundation handbooks to see if it is applicable for FPAS points in their specific years of application. Although the conference is open to medical students all the way up to F2 grade doctors don't be afraid - last year the winners from each category were of mix of medical students and foundation year doctors.

There will also be a number of talks throughout the day by judges giving you a flavour of what a surgical career really entails and what you need to be successful if entering a career in surgery.

To apply please follow the link below (www.rcsed.ac.uk/aspiringsurgeonsbristol) and submit an abstract. The best abstracts will then be asked to present their work on the 2nd March 2013.

We look forward to receiving your abstracts and hosting you here in Bristol. It is a beautiful city and well worth the trip.
