Mersey Anaesthesia Careers Day

This one day event is aimed at Foundation Trainees and Medical Students who are contemplating a career in Anaesthesia or simply interested in finding out more about the specialty. The day will consist of a series of seminars covering a wide variety of topics relevant to a career in Anaesthesia. There will also be hands-on workshop sessions covering key practical techniques commonly performed by the modern Anaesthetist.

 The seminars will cover:

  • An overview depth and breadth of an Anaesthetist’s role in today’s healthcare system
  • Personal testimonies of life as an Anaesthetic trainee at SHO & SpR level as well as life as a Consultant Anaesthetist
  • Details of the training programme and examination structure
  • Specific details about Anaesthesia training in the Mersey region
  • Advice about applying for Core Training posts and interview tips
  • Subspecialties within Anaesthesia such as Paediatric Anaesthesia, Intensive Care Medicine, Obstetric Anaesthesia, and Regional Anaesthesia
  • Opportunities to work outside the UK as an Anaesthetists including Anaesthesia in the 3rd World and opportunities in Australia and beyond

 The workshops will give an introduction to:

  • Basic and advanced airway management
  • Ultrasound Guided Regional Anaesthesia
  • Spinal and epidural Anaesthesia techniques
  • Fibreoptic intubation

There will also be Question & Answer sessions and the Consultants and Specialist Registrars leading the sessions will be available during refreshment breaks and lunch for more informal questions. We hope to demonstrate how interesting, varied and fulfilling a career in Anaesthesia can be and just how much more there is to being an Anaesthetist than putting people to sleep!

Course Fee: £40

Places are limited to 40 and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. The course fee includes refreshments and lunch.
