BAPRAS and IAPS Winter Scientific Meeting, Dublin, 27-29 November 2013

Event Details

On the 27th of November I was given the privilege of presenting my piece of work; Cosmetic Advertising: Legal or Lurid at the BAPRAS (British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons) & IAPS (Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons) Winter Scientific Meeting in Dublin. This was a landmark meeting in that it was the first joint venture between the associations. The meeting spanned three days and showcased the best in research and practice within plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery with international speakers from Australasia, America and across Europe. My podium presentation was included within the miscellaneous section of free papers, which included papers surrounding education, protocols and I.T within plastic surgery. The study which I presented focused upon internet based advertising of cosmetic interventions and whether the adhered to current advertising standards. This is a topic which has been greatly debated since the release of the Keogh report on the cosmetic surgery industry at large. Despite the slightly nerve wracking presentation the conference was a fantastic opportunity to meet plastic surgeons from around the globe and encouraged me to continue to pursue a career in reconstructive plastic surgery.
